A Talk With Destinee Spencer...

"My name is Destinee Spencer. I attend Gallup High School in Gallup, New Mexico. And I am going to be a 2013 graduate. I play for Gallup High’s varsity softball team."

TSI: So, Destinee, tell me about when you began playing softball...

Destinee: " I started playing when I was 8 years old. I’ve been playing on traveling teams and the city league teams. I’ve been to a lot of tournaments and traveled the country to compete with different teams. Now I am fully dedicated to this sport and am willing to excel in all aspect of this sport to become a better athlete."

TSI: You mentioned that you were  "fully dedicated..." what does full dedication look like?

Destinee: "I would practice pitching in my garage when there was snow outside, doing hitting and pitching drills and working out as much as possible."

TSI: ... And it's paid off for you?

Destinee: " I have achieved many awards in softball. I took first place in a pitching contest at the World Series in 2007 at Park City, Utah. I received MVP for NABI softball in 2010 at Phoenix, Arizona. I also received MVP my sophomore year in 2011 at Gallup High school. In 2012 my junior year I received offensive player of the year. I look forward to receiving many more. I don’t just worry about softball but also my academics. I’m always trying to keep my grades up so I can play. My current GPA is 3.6 and getting honor roll every year. My academics are important to me as much as softball. I put my academics before softball. But over everything I put God first. I am a Christian and believe that I wouldn’t have gotten this far without him. "

TSI: Wow, that's a great drive and refreshing perspective. So, what's next?

Destinee: "Softball doesn’t stop for me, it’s always year around. I am more determined to play softball in college. I would like to advance my softball career. I’m expecting college softball to be more challenging, and I’m looking forward to it. I’m also looking forward on progressing my softball skills. It’s going to be a lot of work trying to balance out school and softball but I’m going to try my best to accomplish both. This is what I want and I’m going to work hard for it."

TSI: Sound's great, Destinee, we at Truth-Spin, Inc. wish you the best.
